Awareness, Inclusion, and Respect (AIR) at Episcopal is a school-wide initiative that aligns with our identity as a school in the Episcopal tradition. The Baptismal Covenant of the Episcopal Church has been at the heart of our school since its founding, and contains within it the precepts of "respecting the dignity of every human being," "loving your neighbor as yourself," and living "by word and example the Good News of God in Christ." All of these propel our efforts moving forward as a school community to welcome, include, recognize, and value all.
Our current AIR initiative began as an effort in 2018, when a group of faculty and staff first gathered to acknowledge and address areas of student need such as how to best support IM体育, foster greater understanding, and equip faculty and IM体育 to respond to the needs of a diverse school community. That group eventually included student voices, and together proposed an initiative that centered on promoting an awareness of issues, backgrounds, and varying perspectives on our campus; working to ensure that all feel genuinely welcomed and included in our school community; and that respect and empathy for others remains at the foundation of all we do. Student-led discussion ultimately and appropriately branded this initiative Awareness, Inclusion, and Respect (AIR). It has since grown into two entities: the AIR Steering Committee that is faculty-led and the AIR Student Council that is student-driven. These groups work together to listen, learn, and ultimately promote a welcoming and supportive environment for all members of our school community, true to our identity as an Episcopal school.
Members of the Episcopal community are held to respect the dignity of each student, faculty, and staff member regardless of personal beliefs.
